tinkeryard

A yard for half-finished AI things.

I build small models, odd experiments, and tools nobody asked for. Everything here runs on a laptop, and I write down what broke.

Try the smallest model on the yard

Type a few words. A word-pair model trained on this page's own copy will finish your sentence.

About 40 lines of JavaScript, no server, no API key. It guesses the next word from the last two.

On the bench

Everything here runs today. Open one to try it.

  • OmniShelf

Inventory for small shops that keeps working offline. Scan a barcode, and it syncs when the connection comes back.

    Running

    omni.tinkeryard.dev · React, Firebase

  • Portfolix

A portfolio site builder for photographers, where each photographer gets their own domain.

    Running

    portfolix.tinkeryard.dev · React, Postgres

  • GEO MVP Tracker

A 21-day board for testing an AI visibility audit by hand: the evidence gathered along the way, and a final verdict. Anyone can read it. Only I can edit it.

    Running

    geo.tinkeryard.dev

  • TallyBack

Snap any bill and it highlights the line that doesn't add up, then writes one WhatsApp message to send. The AI only reads the bill; code does every sum.

    Running

    tallyback.tinkeryard.dev · Next.js, Gemini, Supabase

  • Fifty Questions

Fifty questions with automatic checkers. Four small models ran it on my laptop and scored from 29 to 47. Every one of them struggled most with following instructions.

    Running

    Python, Transformers, no GPU

  • Memo Sorter

Tags a short note as idea, todo, reminder or journal. It gets 40 of 48 unseen notes right and still mixes up ideas and todos.

    Running

22M-parameter MiniLM, trained on a laptop CPU in 36 seconds

Try Memo Sorter

Type any short note and the model picks a tag. Try something that could be an idea or a todo, and watch it hesitate.

The demo wakes up slowly if nobody has used it for a while. Open it on Hugging Face or read the model card.

Compare small models

Four small models took the same fifty questions on my laptop. See how each one scored, open any question to read every reply, or ask a model your own.

The demo wakes up slowly if nobody has used it for a while. Open it on Hugging Face or read the code on GitHub.

The gate is open

Follow along as things get built, break, and get fixed. If you are tinkering on something similar, say hello.
